Spring Hope’s eagerly anticipated N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles license plate agency opened its doors Tuesday morning.

The Spring Hope Area Chamber of Commerce is contracted to operate the agency. Its new manager, Timothy Johnson, and employees began training March 18.

Johnson said the agency will be much more convenient for motorists in southern Nash and surrounding counties.

“There are people in neighboring counties who have to drive a great distance to get to an LPA,” he said. “Or they are in such a rural area that they don’t have good internet service and they can’t do their services that they normally could online, so they’ll be able to come to a local office.”

License plate agencies, which are privately run and operate under contract with the DMV, offer vehicle registration services, title transactions, license plate renewals and duplicate registrations, according to a state Department of Transportation news release. There are currently 128 license plate agency offices throughout North Carolina.

The Spring Hope license plate agency is located at 123 S. Ash St. and will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, except for state holidays. The agency’s phone number is 252-291-2073.
