MIDDLESEX — State Bureau of Investigation agents are examining an officer-involved shooting at a rural Johnston County home.
The N.C. Department of Public Safety requested the SBI to conduct a probe into a shooting involving a probation and parole officer.
The officer was conducting an official home visit outside Middlesex just before 9 p.m. Thursday, DPS spokesman Greg Thomas said in a Friday news release.
One person, who hasn’t been identified, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Thomas said.
The officer, who was not injured in the incident, has been placed on administrative duty while the investigation unfolds, Thomas said.
“The SBI is conducting an independent investigation while the department conducts its own internal investigation, all of which is agency protocol in any officer-involved shooting,” Thomas said.
Johnston County Sheriff’s Office deputies secured the scene at 4615 Antioch Church Road, which has a Middlesex address, until SBI agents arrived.
