NASHVILLE — A broad daylight shooting in the Walmart parking lot on Sunday resulted in an injured person and at least one suspect being taken into custody, although police didn’t immediately release the names of the people involved.

“This was an isolated incident where the victim and suspect knew each other,” Nashville Police Chief Anthony Puckett said in a press release. “The detective division of the Nashville Police Department and Nash County Sheriff’s Office are interviewing the individuals involved in the incident. This is an ongoing investigation with rapidly changing and new information. Due to the nature of the crime and family notification, the names of those involved have not been released.”

The press release identifies the crime as assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

At around 1:20 p.m. Sunday, police officers responded to the Walmart on Eastern Avenue in reference to a shooting investigation.

“Within minutes, the threat was contained, and officers had all the subjects that were involved in the incident detained,” Puckett said. “The shooting occurred in the Walmart parking lot. One of the individuals did sustain non-life-threatening injuries and is being treated for those injuries. No bystanders were injured.”

Some sort of chase ensued and ended at the Walgreens on Eastern Avenue, according to a press release from the Nash County Sheriff’s Office that also included information about an unrelated gas leak near the courthouse and a vehicle wreck in Nashville being investigated by the N.C. Highway Patrol.
