BAILEY — Miss Bailey Pageant contestants will celebrate the ‘80s during this year’s event.

The annual pageant is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Southern Nash High School gym.

The winner of the Miss Bailey contest for ages 16 to 19 will receive a $700 scholarship, said event organizer Leigh Deans.

The pageant has seven categories: Baby Miss, Mini Miss, Tiny Miss, Little Miss, Junior Miss, Teen Miss and Miss Bailey. The seven contests are divided by age with all contestants competing in the Sweetheart category.

For 2019, the Miss Bailey contestants are Haley Lancaster and Morgan Pittman. Teen Miss contestants are Mackenzie Gamble and Rachel Perry. Junior Miss contestants are Staleigh Lewis and Savanah Williams. Little Miss contestants are Allison Wilson and Hayley Glover. Tiny Miss contestants are Emma Rhodes, Ruby Ann Pipkin, Isabella Martinez-Chaves and Harper Williams. Mini Miss contestants are Jordyn Battle, McKenzie Lucas, Cora Glover and Brinsley Darak. Baby Miss contestants are Journee Farmer, Ava Wheeler, Adalyn Jones and Dakota Heath.

Attendees can vote with their pocketbook for Miss Bailey Sweetheart. Whichever candidate receives the most money during the event wins the special Sweetheart crown.

All proceeds of the Sweetheart contest along with admission go to the Bailey Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring the pageant. The money will be used for future pageants and the town Christmas parade, Deans said.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. with a $10 admission price. Tickets will be sold at the door. Children 5 and younger get in free.

The daughter of one of the organizers is collecting gently used shoes, baby to adult, as a fundraiser to help her travel to New York City and dance in the 2020 Macy’s parade. She needs 2,500 pairs of shoes. The shoes will be distributed in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Organizers are asking folks to bring their old shoes with them to the pageant and donate them to the effort.

SouthernNashNews.com will record the pageant. A CD or USB drive of the recording costs $15 and can be purchased online or at the event.
