Attendees can catch a hayride through the farm’s old-fashioned country town and see its field of Christmas lights. Southern Nash hosting holiday fair
BAILEY — The Southern Nash High School PTO will hold its second annual holiday fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 in the school gymnasium. Admission is free and attendees can have their picture taken with Santa and browse vendor booths offering wreaths, makeup, monograms, paintings, handmade gifts and more.
Advent celebration service scheduled
MIDDLESEX — Gold Valley Church, 1740 N.C. 231 S., will present “The King is Here: A Community Christmas Project,” described as an Advent celebration through creative worship, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1.
Attendees are asked to bring Layette baby items for the Your Choice Resource Center of Rocky Mount. A full list of suggested items is available online at www.goldvalley.org. Refreshments will follow the worship service.
Church to deck the halls on Sunday
SPRING HOPE — First Baptist Church, 111 N. Walnut St., will have a hanging of the greens service at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2. Refreshments will be served following the service.
Quarterly hydrant flushing scheduled
SPRING HOPE — Fourth-quarter hydrant flushing will be conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 4 and Wednesday, Dec. 5 beginning each night at 10 p.m. and lasting until roughly 2 a.m., town officials announced.
Spring Hope water customers are asked to run their water on and off and rinse out their filters the next morning in order to prevent any loose sediment from getting into their laundry or food.

Christmas festival slated for Dec. 14
SPRING HOPE — The Spring Hope Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its Old-Fashioned Christmas festival from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 featuring free horse-drawn carriage rides, a Christmas scavenger hunt, face-painting, more than 100 Nativity displays, multiple choirs and more. Girl Scout Troop 4835 will sell chili and hot dogs.
