Community Calendar: Old-Fashioned Christmas planned Dec. 14 in Spring Hope

SPRING HOPE — Fourth-quarter hydrant flushing was scheduled to begin Tuesday, Dec. 4 and continues Wednesday, Dec. 5 beginning at 10 p.m. and lasting until roughly 2 a.m., town officials announced.

Spring Hope water customers are asked to run their water on and off and rinse out their filters the next morning in order to prevent any loose sediment from getting into their laundry or food.

A copy of last year’s water quality report is available on the town website, www.springhope.net.

ROCKY MOUNT — Sanda Baucom Hight, contributing columnist for The Wilson Times, will discuss her new book, “Charms of Home, School and Country Life,” at the Braswell Memorial Library’s computer lab, 727 N. Grace St., from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8.

Federal workers’ group to meet

ROCKY MOUNT —The National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Gardner’s Restaurant, 1331 N. Christmas festival slated for Dec. 14

SPRING HOPE — The Spring Hope Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its Old-Fashioned Christmas festival from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 featuring free horse-drawn carriage rides, a Christmas scavenger hunt, face-painting, more than 100 Nativity displays, multiple choirs and more. Girl Scout Troop 4835 will sell chili and hot dogs.

Sharpsburg board reschedules meeting

SHARPSBURG — The Sharpsburg Board of Commissioners has canceled its meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 4. The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Town Hall, 110 W. Railroad St.
