ROCKY MOUNT — Gospel musician and school administrator Tevis Harris has released his first single as an independent artist.

“Fight” will be featured on Harris’ forthcoming gospel album due out later this year. Harris wrote the song and produced it with Mark Green. Accompanying him on the track is the group faVor, composed of several of his friends and family members. The music video for “Fight” was filmed in downtown Rocky Mount and made its YouTube debut on Friday.

Harris describes “Fight” as “a lyrical reminder that although challenges might arise in life, we all must continue to pursue our goals, vision and blessings.”

In addition to his role as elementary grades principal at Rocky Mount Preparatory School, Harris serves as director of worship and choirs at Word Tabernacle Church.

“Tevis Harris doesn’t disappoint with his new single, ‘Fight,’” said the Rev. James Gailliard, Word Tabernacle’s pastor and a Nash County representative in the N.C. House. “It’s not just a song. It’s a song with a message that delivers with strength, stamina and stimulation. The energy alone will convince any person in any situation to fight. A new anthem that will be sung all over the nation. Can’t wait to see his next contribution to the kingdom.”

Harris started singing at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Rocky Mount as a young boy and went on to sing in various children’s, youth and school choruses. He said his forthcoming album will feature a compilation of praise and worship and traditional gospel musical selections.

Harris has worked as a fifth-grade science teacher, a National Board-certified teacher, an assistant principal and principal, along with stints as an adjunct instructor at Nash Community College and N.C. Wesleyan College.

He is married to Janeé Avent Harris and they have one daughter, Carsen Olivia.
