State Rep. James Gailliard, D-Nash, visited educators at Rocky Mount’s Winstead Elementary School on May 9 to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week.

Gailliard thanked teachers for their ongoing commitment to their students and their willingness to ensure equitable education for every child.

“I am appreciative for the work of our principals and educators and am looking forward to providing the necessary support and funding necessary to improve every school in our district,” Gailliard said.

Gailliard said in a press release that he has pursued his education agenda on behalf of his district by supporting and sponsoring legislation to improve teacher compensation, school safety, calendar flexibility, additional funding for repairs and renovations in public schools and expand funding for textbooks and digital resources for students.
