MIDDLESEX — Charles Walter Hopkins Jr., 84, went home to be with the Lord early Saturday morning at his home with his wife by his side. Junior was born in Nash County, a son of the late Charles Walter Hopkins Sr. and Odie Brantley Hopkins.
He worked as a farmer and in the logging business.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Cone Hopkins; sisters, Lottie Brantley, Dorothy Sanders and Mavis Hopkins; and brothers, Oliver, Doliver, Flavius, Tom, Homer and Revel Hopkins.
A celebration of his life was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at East Wake Church of God, 2709 N.C. Highway 97, Wendell, with the Rev. Lonnie Humphrey and the Rev. Tim Hopkins officiating. Burial was in the Hopkins Family Cemetery, Middlesex. The family received friends immediately following the service at East Wake Church of God and will receive friends other times at the home, 5708 N.C. Highway 231 S., Middlesex.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha Hedrick Hopkins; children, Beverly H. Campbell, and husband, Ronald, James Hopkins and wife, Sharon, Ronald Hopkins and wife, Diane, Chris Hopkins and wife, Tammy, and Virgil Hopkins; stepchildren, Devin Adkins and wife, Kelly, and Derek Lambert; brother and sister-in-law, Mahlon and Bernice Hopkins; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
