Crime prevention panels to meet
ROCKY MOUNT — The Edgecombe and Nash County Juvenile Crime Prevention Councils will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at the East Carolina Ag and Education Center.
Vocal ensemble auditions scheduled
SPRING HOPE — Auditions for the Elite Vocal Ensemble, a community youth vocal group serving Nash and Wilson counties, are planned from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church.
Youth auditioning are required to come with one song prepared to sing. Vocal percussionists are welcome and should also have a song to perform. Participation in the ensemble is free for youth ages 12-18. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Flag-raising planned Saturday
ROCKY MOUNT — The Joint Veterans Committee of Nash and Edgecombe Counties will hold a flag-raising ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at Jack Laughery Park. Each month, organizers present a flag to a veteran’s family and raise a new flag in honor of another veteran to be presented to relatives the following month.
U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Willie Herbert Ward Jr.’s family will receive the flag lowered on Saturday. January’s flag will be raised for Army Master Sgt. William Thomas Stallings.

Dems plan executive committee meeting
ROCKY MOUNT — The Nash County Democratic Party executive committee will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at 109 S. Grace St.
