WILMINGTON, Del. — Wilmington Blue Rocks pitcher Jonathan Bowlan made history Monday night at the expense of the Carolina Mudcats as the right-hander pitched just the third no-hitter in franchise history.

Bowlan needed just 98 pitches in the Advanced-A Carolina League game that required just 2 hours, 12 minutes for the Blue Rocks to complete the three-game series sweep with a 3-0 victory at their Frawley Field.
The Memphis, Tennessee, native didn’t walk a batter and was just an error by Wilmington third baseman Dennicher Carrasco away from a perfect game.

Bowlan upped his record to 4-1.

The Mudcats, now 13-13 in the second half and 52-43 overall, couldn’t make anything out of a solid effort by starting pitcher Christian Taugner (4-6). The right-hander gave up all three runs on seven hits while walking none and striking out four.

The Blue Rocks (13-12, 57-37) scored twice in the bottom of the second inning, the first on a single by Sebastian Rivero and the second on a double-play grounder of the bat of Kyle Kasser, who drove in the last run on a seventh-inning single.

The Mudcats were off Tuesday before opening a three-game series at Five-County Stadium against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at 7 p.m. today.
