Author to speak at church conference: Crime prevention panels to meet

ROCKY MOUNT — Bob Goff, author of “Love Does” and “Everybody Always,” will speak at First United Methodist Church’s Flood of Love conference at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 at the Rocky Mount Event Center. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $20 plus a processing fee. All proceeds will be donated to hurricane relief in eastern North Carolina.

ROCKY MOUNT — The Edgecombe and Nash County Juvenile Crime Prevention Councils will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19 at the East Carolina Ag and Education Center.

Gailliard to address Spring Hope Dems

SPRING HOPE — State Rep. James Gailliard, D-Nash, will speak during the Nash County Democratic Party’s Precinct 6A meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Spring Hope Community Building, 104 Community Drive.

All Democrats are encouraged to attend. Voter registration forms will be available to those not registered. For more information, call 252-478-3376.

Flag-raising ceremony slated

ROCKY MOUNT — The Joint Veterans Committee of Nash and Edgecombe Counties will hold a flag-raising ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Jack Laughery Park.

Each month, the committee honors a deceased veteran by presenting family members with a flag flown over the park. This month’s honoree is Hubert Levi Jenkins of the U.S. Navy. The flag to be flown this month will honor U.S. Army 1st Sgt. Robert Thomas Langley.
