Woman charged in mobile home fire
 | | FIREFIGHTERS WORK TO EXTINGUISH MOBILE HOME BLAZE IN SPRING HOPE SUNDAY NIGHT. |
A Spring Hope woman was arrested on arson charges early Monday.
Sadie Leigh Whitley, 34, of Green Road, was charged with setting fire to a mobile home at 314 S. Ash St. Sunday night.
At 8:49 p.m. Sunday, Spring Hope Police Officer C.R. Smith was called to a structure fire at the mobile home. Flames were already visible when Smith arrived at the scene. Once there, Smith found several witnesses who said identified Whitley as a possible suspect. Smith had seen her walking away from the fire when he arrived.
Smith later found Whitley and she was questioned by police officers, representatives of the Nash County Fire Marshal’s Office, and agent Joshua Johnson of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
The mobile home was destroyed, but there were no injuries as resident Juan Rodriguez was not home at the time of the fire.
The Spring Hope, Momeyer, and Stanhope fire departments fought the blaze. Nash County EMS also responded to the fire.
Whitley was officially arrested at 3:05 a.m. Monday after being questioned by authorities. She is being held in the Nash County jail under an $8,000 secured bond.
In addition to the arson charges, Whitley was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
